Edward: Hej kära lyssnare och välkomna till en specialare, en specialpodd av Bio, min bio. Anders: Anders Jansson. I min loge på Oscarsteatern sitter jag. Det här är nämligen vi spelar in den här efter att vi har kört föreställningen Trassel och nu ska vi träffa en av våra idoler och en människa som har betytt enormt mycket i både mitt liv och Edwards liv. Edward: Nej, jag förstår inte heller om jag ska vara ärlig. Men ibland så har man tur. Och såhär hörni, lärdom för allihopa är man ska alltid våga fråga. Man vet aldrig. Man kan aldrig få värre än ett nej. Och nu fick vi mycket bättre än ett nej.

Edward: Our guest today is not just a comedian, not just a writer, not just an actor. He's a chapter of comedy history. He helped blow apart the rules of sketch comedy and such a big part of both mine and Anders kind of comedy coming of age. With an incredible career so far beyond Monty Python. He conquered movies, Broadway with Spamalot, won Emmys, Tonys, Grammy Awards, and wrote one of the most brilliant show tunes of all time, Whistling in the face of death with Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Please welcome a true legend, Eric Idle.

Eric Idle: Well, I'm on my way to France. Edward: You always do a stop in Scandinavia on your way to France. Eric Idle: It's, it's more than just weather, you know. America's in a bit of an, an sprawling state, and I thought it'd be lovely to do a tour in Scandinavia. And Julius assured me that nobody goes to the theater after May. So you have to get in before everybody goes outdoors, you know.

Anders

Edward: Why? Why did you do that? Eric Idle: He said, 'Well, I wanted to see the movie.' Edward: Which is the perfect reason. Eric Idle: Perfect reason.

Anders

Eric Idle: So I went home and I wrote it right away. In about an hour. And I got my little whistle, and I got the hook, 'Always look on the bright side', and I recorded it and I took it in next day, and they said, 'That's it, you got it. Go down the pub now. We've finished the book.'

Anders

Eric Idle: When the BBC first got us an audience, it was filled with little old ladies who thought they were coming to see a circus. And so for the first three or four shows, the laughter is kind of occasional. To say the very least. Then we finally got a better audience. And then we would put the little old ladies in applauding just to remind us of where we came from, you know.

Anders

Eric Idle: Guards, make sure the prince doesn't leave this room until I come and get him. [Graham Chapman's character progressively misunderstands the instructions] Eric Idle: It is a one-take. If you look at it, it's all held. And we, because we'd been watching a lot of Woody Allen, and Woody did a lot of that. We'd hold the camera for a scene. And he stops the editor cutting in, cutting in, cutting in, and all the rhythm has gone.
